About the Role
The Director, Panel Relations & Neutral Strategy owns the composition and performance of the organization’s panel of arbitrators and mediators, ensuring it remains a market-leading differentiator that powers growth, service quality, and reputation.
Reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), this role sits at the intersection of neutral strategy, business demand, and market leadership. This position serves as a senior steward of the panel, shaping how neutrals are recruited, developed, engaged, and retained, while ensuring the panel evolves in step with client needs, market trends, and geographic expansion.
This is a highly visible leadership role designed for a respected ADR professional who brings peer-level credibility with arbitrators and mediators. Paired with the ability to build scalable systems, leverage data, and influence across the organization, success in this position requires balancing strategic ownership with hands-on leadership in a complex, relationship-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end neutral strategy, defining panel composition, depth, and capabilities required to support current demand and future growth across practice areas and geographies
- Set the vision, priorities, and performance metrics for the Panel Relations function, aligning neutral supply with business strategy, revenue goals, and client experience standards
- Design and lead data-driven recruitment strategies in close partnership with business unit leaders, proactively forecasting panel needs and recruiting elite neutrals through peer-based outreach and market relationships
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as panel utilization, retention, demographics, satisfaction, and education compliance to inform panel strategy and forecast needs.
- Partner internally to support delivery of learning and development programs for panelists across in-person and virtual formats, all with the goal of accelerating onboarding and impact of new and existing neutrals.
- Establish a commanding market presence by forging strategic partnerships with key legal organizations and stakeholders.
- Represent NAM as a thought leader at major industry forums to drive brand equity, attract elite talent, and showcase the unparalleled caliber of the panel to the broader legal community.
- Establish a strong market presence and brand by representing the organization at industry conferences and networking events to strengthen relationships and promote panel excellence.
- Oversee day-to-day panel operations, including mass communications and inquiry resolution, to ensure a premium experience that drives the long-term retention of top-tier neutrals.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current or former Arbitrator or Mediator, possessing professional experience to credibly recruit and mentor legal talent such as law firm partners, judges, or subject-matter experts
- Proficiency with data analysis tools, applicant tracking systems, and relevant technology platforms
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data and translate insights into actionable strategies
Preferred:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Direct experience recruiting neutrals (arbitrators and mediators)
- Experience in Continuing Legal Education (CLE) accreditation, curriculum design, or professional development for legal practitioners
What We Offer
Salary: $150,000 - $175,000 per year (good-faith estimate)
